John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs he wrote, most of which are set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and settled down in Aspen. Denver's most popular songs about his home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver became the first Hall of Fame inductee in 2011. To many, Denver is the image of Colorado. On my journeys around the world, I have met many people who are not from Colorado. People will beg, "Oh John Denver!" when they hear that you are from Colorado. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's first Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked in small Folk Music Groups. The song was composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff had originally written the tune to Johnny Cash's tune in mind, but Denver was aware from the very first moment he listened to the first versions of the song that it would be a big hit. The song was recorded by the singer within a couple of days after performing it to crowds of enthusiastic fans on the streets of Washington D.C.
