Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's first Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked with small folk groups. The track was written in collaboration with Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the track with Johnny Cash in mind but when Denver saw an early rendition immediately, he realized it was destined to be the next hit single.
